Cervical Smears and Screening


The vast majority of women should be screened for a cervical cancer. The screening program starts from 25 years of age and finishes at 65 years.This is a highly effective screening program in protecting women from the development of cervical cancer. From 25 years of age this should occur every 3 years and from 50 every 5 years. This procedure takes approximately 1 minute, is only mildly uncomfortable and can be done easily at the outpatient setting. Results are usually available within 1 month.
